DJ Shadow and Cut Chemist played Syracuse, NY 11/10/14 (pix) @djshadow @cut_chemist

DJ Shadow and Cut Chemist brought their touring ethnomusicology lesson to a respectable and excited crowd on a cold Tuesday in Syracuse, NY a few weeks back. After catching the show in Austin during the tour’s first leg, it was pretty much mandatory to follow up with a second helping of tunes cultivated from Afrika […]

Slayer/Suicidal Tendencies/Exodus played Albany, NY on 11/25/14 @slayer @officialstig @exodusattack

The obvious winner of  NY’s Heaviest Show Before Thanksgiving award, Slayer, Suicidal Tendencies, and Exodus brought a multitude of thrash to Albany, NY’s Washington Street Armory on November 25th.  Needless to say, each band brought their own version of sonic pummel to my state’s capital, and the tightly packed crowd drank, moshed, and screamed their way through […]

Review of EAST OF THE WALL – Redaction Artifacts – Available on Translation Lost Record TODAY (10/29/13)

When a band has a few releases under their belt, they tend to sway one of a handful of very predictable ways. The first would be an attempt to reach out to a broader audience; very abruptly detracting from their finely tuned sculpted sound, and the brand they have established with their longtime listeners.

Show Review for @DEFTONES and THE CONTORTIONIST @tcband – 3/4/13 – Main Street Armory

Ok, let me start off by saying that 1) Deftones are an AMAZING band with incredible output, stage presence, and longevity and 2) The Contortionist are also a sick group of diverse musical influences and provided a good fit to open up the show. Great lineup, with a few nit-picky smatterings of 1st person truth. […]

Review of THE INSURGENCE’s “Elimi-Nation” by Matt

Seattle thrashy punk quintet The Insurgence don’t stop at merely wanting to be noticed. They seem fixed on demanding your attention. Their newest record, Elimi-Nation (Innerstrength Records), is a testimonial to that fact. Dudes can play, and thankfully, not just in a shreddy, flashy, chops-indicate-penis-size kind of way. The Insurgence clearly understand the overlapping nature of punk, hardcore, and metal. They use it to build individual parts as well […]
