Why did the drummer stare at the frozen juice can?

Because it said, “Concentrate”.

Drummers always get a bum rap. Why is that? Ever seen a good band with a shitty drummer? No. Know why? BECAUSE THEY DON’T FUCKING EXIST.

Drummers rule! We hit stuff, get peoples’ butts shaking, and ultimately determine whether or not the band is going to perform well. You CANNOT have a solid band without a solid drummer, so all you 6-string wankers out there with your tapping and flooded solos can suck it… This one is for the hitters.

I sat down with Shadows Fall’s percussive madman Jason Bittner on February 16th in Syracuse, NY to get talk about how he got started playing, what he’s currently beating the hell out of, and what he’s got going on in 2013. Take note: He’s available for lessons, touring, and recording sessions, so if you want a metal legend backing you up from April until August, I’ve got the guy!

Indianapolis, Indiana quintet The Contortionist is another fine example of A&R selection from Good Fight Music. With the rise of progressive metal in recent years, and no shortage of limber-fingered shredders vying for a higher ranking in the metal food chain, Good Fight continues to show good judgment and support for their artists to help propel them to the forefront of the genre. Kudos!

What’s the biggest lie told to a drummer?

Hang on a minute and I’ll help you with your gear.

This time, I sat down with Polar Bear Club’s Steve Port. Always the road warrior, Steve’s hard work and drive have really paid of in making his own punk rock dreams come true. I’m sure he’ll have a good time hanging with his favorite band, Bad Religion, when PBC embark on a US tour with the long-running punk legends later this year!

Brooklyn, NY indie/folk quartet Swear and Shake have only been a group since 2010, but when something great makes an entrance onto the music scene, it cannot, and does not, stay a secret for very long. Currently on the road opening for G. Love and Special Sauce (a great gig to have, folks!!!), Swear and Shake are supporting their latest release, Maple Ridge, an album fully funded by fans via Kickstarter.

Interview with Jeff Hershey from JEFF HERSHEY and THE HEARTBEATS; New covers EP and European Tour forthcoming! @jeffheartbeats #nomotiv

Jeff Hershey has worn many hats during his musical tenure. Some of you may know him from his metal days in Black Opal or Hybrid Moments. Others may recognize him as a core member of the wildly popular Vagrant Record’s act, No Motiv. My introduction to him was when he ran and danced his way through a busy bar/restaurant venue with a giant microphone attached to 80ft. of cabling. My first Jeff Hershey and the Heartbeats show is one i’ll take that to the grave, you can bet.
