SKALAPALOOZA Pix from Philly… 4 shows remain THIS WEEK!!!

After much anticipation and a long wait, Skalapalooza kicked off last week in Philadelphia at World Cafe, and it was quite a spectacle! To think we’d be able to see The Pietasters, Pilfers, and Spring Heeled Jack one more time is beyond comprehension, but it happened, and what a time it was!

Philly was followed up by hugely successful shows in DC and NYC, and I just wish we could’ve been there to witness the excitement. Thanks for imminent fatigue, CMJ.

Anywho, scroll down to check out a bunch of great photos from Night 1 courtesy of Pamela Janutolo, who was bouncing around all night in a weird work/play balancing act. Great job, Pam!!! Read More…

Check out these interview with Coolie Ranx from Pilfers, Steve from The Pietasters, Ronnie from Spring Heeled Jack, and Brian from Edna’s Goldfish.

This is going to be so much fun!!! Come out if you are in the area, or take the weekend off and rage with us!

Interview with Ronnie Ragona from SPRING HEELED JACK; Playing SKALAPALOOZA in select cities!

New Haven, Connecticut’s Spring Heeled Jack USA was a frontrunner of the East Coast Ska Scene during their tenure as a group. Existing from 1991-2001, the septet helped and encouraged the burgeoning Third Wave Ska movement, and made Connecticut’s scene one of the most active and vibrant in the nation. Several members of the third wave group went on to perform with other high profile acts including The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Less Than Jake, and Reel Big Fish among others, true to their Ska roots to this very day. The untimely passing of original drummer Dave Karcich, as well as the difficult and tumultuous world of music business, ultimately led to the group disbanding as of 2002, but the group’s legacy lives on.

Interview with Stephen Jackson from The Pietasters

Washington D.C.’s The Pietasters are one of the longest running Ska bands on the market today. Formed in 1990, the soul slinging, hard partying band represents the finest of youthful energy combined with adult situations. Anyone who has seen the group can tell you that their performances are lighthearted, beer saturated dance-a-thons that feature bouncy grooves, catchy melodies, and a reason to leave the drama at home. The band’s rise to prominence was inevitable, and their impressive catalogue of releases, EP’s, and compilation appearances have made them a household name amongst Ska enthusiasts.

However, life does have a way of throwing touring musicians a mighty curveball at times. The band has endured several lineup changes during their tenure, most notably the tragic passing of longtime bassist Todd Eckhardt. But the band marches on, taking their soulful sound on the road to this very day. They’ve recently had their classic album, “Oolooloo,” released on vinyl for the first time, and you can buy it HERE (if it’s still available… RUN!)
