Winnipeg, Manitoba’s long running rock/hardcore trio KEN Mode are making the rounds in the states right now with Fight Amp and the occasional Today Is The Day in tow, and damn… That’s one heavy ass lineup! Forming around the turn of the millennium, KEN Mode, a self described “Dance Party Killing Machine,” play an extremely loud, noisy, brand of hardcore that’ll shred your eardrums while dimming your world view. Solid stuff!
Music marathons are a blast! Free tunes, free booze, and plenty of time to rub elbows with creative types looking for their big break.
One of my favorite pastimes as an interviewer is stumbling upon cool folks at bars, finding out they’re performing that day, and hitting them with a quick, unscripted interview to share with you, the reader. So, here’s a quickie with Jon LaPrade from YOUNG THINGS and his manager right before they took the stage at The Living Room on the Lower East Side. Check them out!
Interview with Jason and Skye from THE HOUNDS BELOW; Heading out on tour NOW! @cmj @thehoundsbelow @andrewwk
Detroit, Michigan’s quartet The Hounds Below, the new project by guitarist/singer Jason Stollsteimer, are setting their sights on indie-rock gold. Formed in 2009, after a short-start in 2008, the group’s mellow rock vibe and melodic approach is certainly a sonic change when compared to Stollsteimer’s previous group, The Von Bondies, but the songs are no less catchy and memorable than the former.
Here’s an interview I conducted, drunken and very late at night, with Danish New Wave Rock group The Foreign Resort. One of my favorite US imports from across the pond, The Foreign Resort has logged many miles in the states in an attempt to appeal to the masses.
Super cool guys and great musicians, it was a pleasure to get to see them again after a tumultuous time at SXSW 2012, but they remained as candid and fun to hang with as I remember. Big shout out to Pete Schwinge from Nordic Spotlight for taking these guys on, and I wish TFR the best for the future to come! Click READ MORE for the interview, and check ’em out!!!
Man. Myth. Rocker. Andrew WK came into the mainstream music scene like a bomb going off, and I’d say he was just the kick in the pants that we needed. Rock and Roll is about having fun, partying, and making friends, and who wouldn’t want to hang out with this guy?! I mean, come on… You dead or something?
